How can mindfulness benefit you?

Mindfulness is used in many different ways across many different regions and religions. Despite variations in practices, the general consensus is that mindfulness is achieved by intentionally maintaining present awareness, moment-by-moment, by noticing thoughts, feelings, and bodily sensations as they arise. The attitude throughout this awareness is one without judgment or evaluation but rather through a curious and nurturing lens. Overall, mindfulness includes purposefully paying attention to the present moment by noticing thoughts, feelings, and sensations, and without evaluation or judgment.

Mindfulness is associated with a whole host of benefits, but often you have to give the practice a genuine try before you may notice some of the benefits. Like most things worth doing, it takes time and effort to receive the payoff.

Mindfulness allows you to be present and experience reality as it is. Since mindfulness focuses on the here and now, it often helps to reduce stress and suffering, and increases contentment. As you learn to be more present, you may become more comfortable and content with your life as it is right now. Mindfulness can also improve your ability to control your reactions to your thoughts and feelings.
